What started off in a small spare room in the early 90’s, has expanded into a full-fledged boutique and workshop that occupies four floors of her ancestral home in the heart of Hyderabad city. A visitor to Lilacs will be enriched with a beehive of activity with specialists producing intricate hand embroidery, dyeing, hand block printing, designing and tailoring for heavy suits, designer sarees, trendy tunics & kurtis, lehangas, contemporary blouses, fusion wear and men’s sherwanis. Sonu’s early childhood was spent growing up in Mumbai and she graduated from St. Ann’s College with a bachelor’s degree in Commerce. She went on to pursue a career as a backdrop designer, working as an intern for well established designers in the United Kingdom and Europe. She returned to India to get married. With encouragement from her loving husband, Ramesh, she travelled the world and started designing delicate diamond jewellery and haute couture for her friends and family. Her initial inspirations came from the fashion capitals of Great Britain, Paris, Italy, Greece, Rome, Athens and Turkey. She collected material, accessories and ideas along with having the pleasure of enjoying her travels to these distant lands and cherishing the opportunity to meet and make lasting friends in her line of business. Since then, there’s no looking back as she began participating in showcasing of Contemporary costumes, Fashion weeks, Bridal shows, etc. However, London, Hong Kong and UAE remain her favourite for inspirations.On the horizon, she sees the opportunity to start up an All Indian Contemporary Boutique in Paris and Italy.
